Shopping for Dresses

Shopping for just the right cocktail dress is trying at best. So, the search was on for just the right dress that made me look thinner, polished, and contemporary. Frumpy was not in the recipe.

Dressing Room Escapades: Eighteen items and no hair brush! What a nightmare! The static in the air was awful, and my hair decided to play along. I got tickled looking at the flyaway mess in the mirror. But that's enough about my hair, on to the dresses. Oh my... Well, some of them had so many straps that I could not figure out what to put where. Now don't get carried away with that thought. But seriously, some of those garments need more instructions than "Dry Clean Only."

Clothes Shopping Issues: Sizing should be standardized throughout the clothing industry. Spanx -- oh my -- should we really have to fight our way into something like that? I thought women gave up those restrictions long ago. Oh, and don't get me started on limiting the number of garments you can take into a dressing room. I cover the entire area and load up on whatever I might want to don, so that I don't have to get cold but once. And what's up with one hook on the dressing room wall? Surely, I am not the only lady that experiences these frustrations.

So, to answer your question, YES, I finally found a dress that I like and that is comfortable for a long evening of standing and sitting. But, I'm still on the hunt for a lovely pair of shoes.

San Francisco

My recent journey to San Francisco would not have been nearly as much fun without my partners in crime. We took to the streets of San Francisco (pun intended) and discovered Maiden Lane, which was formerly a row of brothels and is now a row of serious shops. We discovered the Prada boutique among others of that same level of expense. After joking about having our credit cards scanned as a qualification for entering, we opted for taking our photo in front of the store. Our peripatetic journey allowed us to shop among those who actually have money. Of course, nothing was budging our wallets to invest in the $400.00 tank top. (Aren't those $5.00 at Wal-Mart?)

My son and daughter-in-law joined me for the weekend, and we bussed up to the Golden Gate Bridge, walked through Chinatown, and trolley'd for rest. Lunch in Chinatown consisted of DimSum. (I won't order it again, but it was okay.) After the up and down hills of the Asian sector, we opted for a rest aboard the Trolley. My son rode standing up on the edge just like the people in all of those post cards do. He even admitted that it was pretty cool. Well to be honest with you, we were all wearing gloves because it was cold and windy on that beautiful SF day.

Just as I always do, I cried when they boarded their plane. I'm always crying when I have to tell my adult children bye. They live too far away, and I don't get to see them nearly enough.
